Applying for Housing

Applying for residence hall housing is a separate process from applying for admission to the college. The housing application process takes place only after you have been accepted to the college and have confirmed your intention to attend by submitting your admissions tuition deposit. Because residence hall space is limited, not all accepted and confirmed entering students are able to apply for housing.

It is important to know that Berklee College of Music is not a college where a high percentage of students live in residence halls. Most Berklee students, including some entering students, live in private apartments in the neighborhoods near the college. Most entering students who want to live in the residence halls are able to do so, but some are unable to get a space. As you think about housing at Berklee, you should take a look at the Off-Campus Housing pages to familiarize yourself with the alternatives to residence hall housing.

For each term, the college's Admissions Office and Housing Office determine which accepted and confirmed entering students will be sent housing applications based on criteria such as the date of the student's tuition deposit confirmation and whether the student was originally accepted to enter the college for a previous term but was unable to do so. In general, the earlier you are accepted to the college and submit your tuition deposit, the better chance you have of qualifying to apply for residence hall housing.

Fall Term - Housing applications are sent to accepted/confirmed early decision entering students starting in late January and we continue sending applications to accepted/confirmed students until all the residence hall spaces available for entering students are reserved (usually early in April.)

Spring Term - Few residents leave the residence halls at the end of fall term, so only a small number of spaces become available for spring term. In coordination with the Housing Office, the Admissions Office determines which accepted/confirmed entering students receive Spring Term housing applications. Housing applications are sent to that limited group of students by mid- October.

Summer Term - Housing applications are sent to accepted/confirmed entering students starting in early March and we continue sending applications until all the residence hall spaces available for entering students are reserved. For information about applying for housing for the Summer Performance Program and other special programs, please refer to the Summer Program Housing page.
