Berklee Interdisciplinary Arts Institute

The Berklee Interdisciplinary Art Institute (BIAI) provides emerging musician/composers with a unique opportunity to collaborate with artists from other domains, including dance, theater, video/sculpture installation, experimental performance, robotics, virtual reality, and transdisciplinary practice. Students engage in a discourse with leading artists, scholars, and program directors to gain firsthand knowledge of cutting-edge global arts and their societal impact. Program participants will generate a new body of interdisciplinary work while developing aesthetic, analytical, and entrepreneurial skills in an innovative curriculum that is a new model for undergraduate study.
The institute offers a creative and highly personalized curriculum for students that addresses contemporary developments in the creation, presentation, and reception of the arts. Emphasis is placed on students’ ability to partner in new collaborative work from the concept development stage to the final premiere. Through BIAI seminars and public presentations, students acquire an enhanced understanding of how original composition, sound design, and performance can play a transformative role in artistic discourse and social dialogue.
Applicants will be selected based on their application, GPA, recommendation, and other criteria, including exceptional musical skill, artistic vision, creativity, and commitment to music, as well as their ability to function within a group.
Interested students should contact Neil Leonard, artistic director of the Berklee Interdisciplinary Arts Institute, at nleonard@berklee.edu.
