Berklee Summer in the CityTaylor Kelly
Taylor Kelly was born and raised in the suburbs of Rochester, New York and currently resides in Boston. She has a voice that blends jazz, soul, funk and truth. Her songwriting tells of triumph in hopes to inspire many to live, love, and forgive. Also a trumpet player, Taylor strives for an instrumental-vocal approach, rhythmic phrasing, and improvisation reminiscent of her trumpet-playing influences (Chet Baker, Roy Hargrove, Miles Davis, and Louis Armstrong, to name a few). Her biggest vocal influences are Stevie Wonder and Erykah Badu. Taylor leads a nine-piece group that released a debut album, In the Meantime, last July, and is working on a second album to be released this summer.
Taylor is a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music, earning a degree in Professional Music. She is lead vocalist in two Boston-based wedding bands, Silver Arrow Band and Bait & Switch. She is also a vocalist and trumpet player for the 18-piece big band Thinkin’ Big, which has embarked on two musical tours hitting venues in Chicago, Toronto, Montreal, and Rochester, has released two albums (Mile 524 and Border Patrol), had the privilege of opening for Jerry Bergonzi and Garzone and the Fringe at The Lily Pad, and was asked to play at the renowned Litchfield Jazz Festival this summer. Taylor is also a member of the Jay-Z tribute band Hard Knock Live who often plays with the Boston-acclaimed Timberfakes, selling out The Middle East Downstairs this past New Years Eve.
