Berklee Summer in the CityRed Velvet
Red Velvet is an acoustic duo drawing on proud Southern roots, Northeastern tenacity, and fiery hair all around. Heavily influenced by greats such as Stevie Wonder, Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Civil Wars, and Parliament, Red Velvet brings to life a sound reminiscent of an era when music was synonymous with soul.
Jordan Lipsey and Neal Rosenthal met on their first day of school at Berklee College of Music in 2011, and quickly became friends due to the subconscious, natural draw of redheads to one another. By the summer of 2012 they were playing as a duo in Jordan’s native Texas. Highlights of 2013 included opening for Livingston Taylor at the Dosey Doe in Houston, playing several Mardi Gras shows in New Orleans, Harvard University functions, and returning to the Dosey Doe to ring in the New Year.
Jordan is a Music Business/Management major who expects to graduate in May. She interned at the music intelligence company, The Echo Nest and participated in The Founder’s Journey, an entrepreneurial class at MIT. She hopes to combine her love of playing music with her skills in the music business as she moves into post-college life.
Neal is a Performance major and a Recording and Production minor from Rhode Island who will graduate in 2015. A trumpet principal at Berklee, he is equally accomplished at guitar. Both trumpet and guitar have taken him up and down the East Coast, playing esteemed venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Sullivan Hall, The Bitter End, Nectar’s, Paradise Rock Club, The Sinclair, The Middle East Downstairs, and the list goes on.
