For more than 2 decades Grammy Award-winning artist Terrance Simien has been shattering the myths about what his indigenous Creole Zydeco music is and is not. An eighth generation Louisiana Creole, Simien has lead his Zydeco Experience Band and become one of the most respected and internationally recognized touring and recording artists in roots music today. He has performed over 5,000 concerts, toured millions of miles to over 40 countries and reached at least a million people during his eventful 25 year career.

Jazz musicians are blessed with the desire and ability to play a genre that has a history as rich as its sound. All the greats, past and present, know that it's not enough to simply play the notes; one has to live the music and feel it with every breath. When Mack Avenue recording artist, Tia Fuller picks up her sax to play, the two become one and something amazing happens as the notes and reverberations of her musical elixir fill the room. As part of Black History Month, Jazz at the Arsenal featuring Berklee faculty artists presents gospel jazz with the George W. Russell Jr. Trio with special guest vocalist Lynette Gittens. [details]

Berklee judges open the doors to the final round of auditions for one of the college's most popular events: Singers Showcase. Each vocalist will perform in front of a panel of prestigious Berklee faculty and a live audience—a unique opportunity for aspiring performers to witness the audition experience. After the final audition, the audience will be invited to vote, and the rseults will be combined with the judges' scores. Be a part of the selection process, hear the judges' critiques, and support your favorite singer as the top vocalists are chosen for the December concert. David Sonnenschein is a sound designer, the founder of Sonic Strategies, and an author of the book Sound Design: The Expressive Power of Music, Voice and Sound Effects in Cinema. Adam Nussbaum grew up in Norwalk, Connecticut and started to play drums at age 12 after studying piano for five years; as a teenager he played bass and saxophone. He's performed with such artists as Albert Dailey, Monty Waters, Joe Lee Wilson, Sheila Jordan, Sonny Rollins, Dave Liebman, Stan Getz, Gary Burton, and John Scofield. [details]

Loren Schoenberg, director of the National Jazz Museum in Harlem will be presenting the Savory Recordings—recently discovered live performances of Count Basie, Lester Young, Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins, Benny Goodman, Billie Holiday, Fats Waller, and others at the absolute peak of their creative powers. A jazz sextet with some of the most killing musicians: Ryan Jessel, trumpet/flugelhorn; Jordan Townsend, tenor saxophone; Andre Vasconcelos, guitar; Evan Waaramaa, keys; Jude Kim, upright bass; and Ken Ychicawa, drums. Playing some originals, including drum and bass, 11/8 Latin, and pretty much everything in between.

Marco Pereira is beloved as one of Brazil's greatest guitarists and composers, his music ranging from solo guitar music infused with improvisatory flair, to fully orchestrated compositions. The Ambassadors Jazztet of the United States Army Field Band will present a free public concert for your listening pleasure. An open jam session with the players will follow on Saturday, February 11, 2012, in 150 Mass. Ave., room 114 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. for any musicians who would like to sit in. The Learning Center's fifth Sound Collage Contest has begun, the competition where we record samples, and you use them to make a piece of music. At this event, members of Berklee's Video Game Music Club will discuss sound design techniques and sample manipulation, slanted toward video game audio. [details]

Art of the Duo is a spontaneous collection of music rooted in the jazz tradition presented by pianist Douglas Johnson and vocalist Lisa Thorson. No charts, no lyric sheets, just our favorite songs played with a spirit of adventure.

Leala Cyr and Ricardo Vogt, a duo since 2002, blend picturesque vocals and sensual guitar to create a unique collaboration of music. Together since 2002, this pair has found a way to combine American and Brazilian roots to form a new array of sound. [details]

Born to R&B and soul music royalty, Lalah Hathaway '94 is known to most people simply as the daughter of late soul music legend Donny Hathaway. But there is more to her than that. A trained pianist and vocalist, she is a graduate of Berklee College of Music and her career has spanned two decades. Twenty-one years after the release of her first LP, her career continues to thrive. Hathaway will be performing with Berklee students.

Last fall Roll Call Records' Chamberlin unveiled its five track covers EP, aptly titled Chamberlin Cabin Covers EP. The group's latest effort finds the band adding its recognizably laidback flair to some of today's most popular songs by Passion Pit, the Cults, Vampire Weekend, Kanye West/Bon Iver, and Foster the People. Recorded this past summer in its cabin tucked away in Vermont, Chamberlin chose which songs to cover based on fan voting through its official website. [details]

With a deep, spiritual, and moving style, Yasmin Levy preserves and revives the most beautiful and romantic songs from the Ladino/Judeo-Spanish tradition. Her powerfully sensual voice, which combines flamenco's fiery passion with the microtonal melisma of Middle Eastern music, ripples across sashaying grooves built from hand percussion; Turkish-Arabic instruments such as the oud, ney, and qanun; and Western standbys, including acoustic guitar and bass.

Orozco will cover Venezuelan joropo and merengue and their applications to modern jazz and how to blend Cuban and Venezuelan genres in the same Latin jazz piece, achieving a coherent mix of all elements. [details]

George Clinton, leader of the P-Funk movement, also created innovative business relationships with his recording, publishing, and performance partners. Clinton and others will participate in a panel moderated by Assistant Chair of the Music Business Management Department John Kellogg, discussing these issues in an effort to enlighten and inform the next generation of talented musicians. The Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI) is proud to present this series of concerts featuring some of world's most talented emerging artists. The Berklee P-Funk Ensemble has been a popular ensemble since the 1990s. George Clinton made a surprise visit and directed the group for an MTV special a few years back. Now, one of the foremost innovators of funk music returns to Berklee for a four-day residency and a concert covering his artistic trajectory from Parliament in the 1960s to Funkadelic, and his amazing solo career.

Wonjun Jung, a.k.a Jun, is gonna be playing guitar with other great musicians. Be ready to dance!

The Y Chromotones are an all-male a cappella group at Berklee. At this concert, they will present a brief history of choral music, through a comedic series of theme and variations, sung by the group.

Shon Boublil, the grand prize winner of the Lee Ritenour Six String Theory, will be giving a 60-minute solo concert. His performance will include some of the greatest composers, including Miguel Llobet, Barrios, Bach, Albéniz, Regondi, Piazzolla, Tárrega, Legnani, and others. Boublil is a Yamaha performing artist and D’Addario Gold performing artist and has made a debut CD recording with Lee Ritenour, B. B. King, George Benson, Steve Lukather, John Scofield, Pat Martino, Mike Stern, Neal Schon, Slash, Vince Gill, Keb Mo, Taj Mahal, Joe Bonamassa, Jonny Lang, Andy McKee, Guthrie Govan, Joe Robinson, and Tomoyasu Hotei.
