A master class/clinic presented by Jerry Leake, an artist and author who teaches percussion. He is the cofounder of the award winning world-music ensemble Natraj and performs with Club d'Elf and the Agbekor Society. His world-rock-fusion octet Cubist has gained national recognition. On tabla, Leake has accompanied Ali Akbar Khan, Steve Gorn, Sharafat Ali Khan, and Chitravena Ravikiran to name a few.
This clinic will address:
• Tabla solo in 10-beat jhaptal
• Merging rhythm theory and practice
• Compositional forms and improvisation
• Tihai cadences and ginti number compositions
• Alternate set-ups combing cultures, instruments, technique
