In this session, Nancy Rumbel will share concepts about improvisation both in live music and in her career. She will help us open our horizons to possibilities that exist here at Berklee and beyond.

Rumbel is a professional composer, recording artist, performer, and teacher. Her primary instruments are oboe, English horn, double wooden ocarinas, clay ocarinas, and keyboards. She is well-known for her work of 30 years with the Grammy Award-winning duo Tingstad & Rumbel. She recorded and toured with the Paul Winter Consort for five years. In addition, her signature sound can be heard on many recordings with artists such as Cris Wiliamson, Danny O’Keefe, Susan Osborn, Ginny Reilly, and Hilary Field. She is an in-demand session player due to her versatility and ability to blend her unique instruments into the worlds of pop, folk, Americana, new age and jazz. Rumbel was a National Trustee for four years for the Recording Academy and is currently an advisor for the PNW Recording Academy Board. She is an enthusiastic volunteer for MusiCares and resides in Bellevue, Washington.
