New Piano Music

Each year student composers submit piano compositions to be selected and performed by Berklee piano students during the annual Keys Festival. This year, 11 students will have their piano music performed by 10 of Berklee's finest pianists on the Steinway piano in David Friend Recital Hall under the direction of Piano Department chair Stephany Tiernan.

Dig Deep: The Laszlo Gardony Trio

The Laszlo Gardony Trio will perform original music from their upcoming release Dig Deep (Sunnyside Records). The CD will be released in May 2008. The music will again be previewed on April 25 at the Real Deal Jazz Club. Following the release, the trio will tour nationally during the summer and the fall. [details]

Brazilian jazz violinist and composer Andrei Matorin leads a quartet featuring some of Berklee's finest talent: Takeshi Ohbayashi on piano, Dan Carpel on bass, and Dan Pugach on drum set. Aside from their high level of technique and tasteful sophistication, they bring a variety of influences from their respective countries. The quartet's focus is on group dialogue, improvisation, and spontaneity played with an extreme dynamic and emotional range.

Senior Bass Recital: Matt O'Donnell

Bassist Matt O'Donnell presents an hour of music for everybody to enjoy for his senior recital. The night will feature the spectacular jazz/pop performances of the Matt O'Donnell Quintet. Featuring Quinn Carson, Abye Osman, Stephen Chaplin, and Cameron Outlaw, the quintet will be playing Matt's original tunes and fresh new arrangements of classics. As an extra treat, the show will begin with an Opry-style acoustic folk set starring some very special guests.

Marlon Saunders: So I Have the Degree—Now What?

Tatsuya Yoshinaga: Senior Recital

Tatsuya Yoshinaga, drummer and multi-instrumentalist, presents his sixth recital at Berklee as his senior concert. The first half will feature acoustic jazz and the second half will be performed by an electric band with vocalist Neara Russell in a variety of styles, including Latin, funk, rock, pop, and r&b. Tatsuya Yoshinaga is the recipient of several scholarships, including the Zildjian Award.

Women Musicians Network 11th Annual Concert

Best Inventions 2007

Best Inventions is a recital of the best student projects from the CP 212 (Tonal Counterpoint 2) course from the previous year, presented by Composition Department faculty member and pianist Marti Epstein. An invention is an imitative, contrapuntal Baroque-style piece. These pieces represent Berklee students' unique ability to absorb and create within a pre-existing style. They show deep understanding of the subject matter coupled with the drive to be original.

Students and faculty from Mexico, Cuba, Bulgaria, Pakistan, Japan, Colombia, and the U.S. will perform, some wearing colorful clothing and playing rarely seen instruments that represent their home countries. They'll showcase a vast range of musical styles including salsa, klezmer, and bluegrass. Concert director and Berklee professor Ken Zambello is planning a stirring and emotional program, with songs of love, loss, tragedy, and triumph.     As part of the annual celebration of Berklee’s international culture and music, a community leader is honored for supporting international understanding, goodwill, and education, and for helping Berklee’s international students. The Berklee 2008 International Award recipient is world-renowned Boston Pops conductor Keith Lockhart.
