Lomar Brown, HartBeat's band leader, grew up listening to his dad play piano and sing the music of Jimmy Cliff, Sam Cooke, Bob Marley, Elton John, and Freddie McGregor. Listening to the radio and learning piano and saxophone helped music become part of Brown's inmost being. He attended The Artists Collective, where he received most of the fundamental skills required to further his musical journey.

Now Brown is an up-and-coming alto saxophonist in the Boston area. His journey consists of being a part of the Greater Hartford Academy Big Band, which took first place in the 44th Charles Mingus High School competition. (Brown won the Soloist Award that same year.) Prior to Berklee, Brown played throughout Connecticut, performing at the Paul Brown Monday Night Jazz Series as well as the Hartford Jazz Festival. He has attended Berklee for the last four years, and been given the opportunity to play such local venues as the Middle East, Phoenix Landing, the Red Room, the Sinclair, Wally’s Cafe, and Berklee Performance Center. He has also had the honor of sharing the stage with musicians such as Neal Smith, Tia Fuller, George Clinton, and Bernie Worrell.
