It’s been seven years since musician Greg Laswell released his debut album. Four records later, many things have changed, including many of the songs. Some changed phrasing, and their tempo became more and more improvised. Other songs changed from Laswell's simply wanting to give fans something new. Other songs' meanings had changed over time. Laswell kept getting comments after shows and messages online asking for recorded versions of these mutations. So he did it. He took three weeks and re-recorded a few of the more popular songs off each record. Musically, he imposed two rules: no drums and fewer than four tracks per song (allowing himself to comp string sections onto one track). He also mixed in two songs to the gang. The result is I Was Going To Be An Astronaut.
