Fresh Prospects: Ripe / The Rare Occasions / Late Greats
Fresh Prospects is a showcase of the best up-and-coming college artists throughout Boston, at Berklee and beyond. This will feature artists with a local and online following, a professional attitude, and the ability to play a 45-minute set of original music.
Ripe formed in September of 2011 after many late night jams between few friends. They are a unique group of musicians whose “funkifized” mix of melodic grooves and catchy melodies started to gain attention from their local community in Boston. If you’re going to join the Ripe family, get up, get loose, and get ready to party.
After making their mark on the Providence rock scene with their reputable act, the Valar, drummer Luke Imbusch and singer/keyboardist Brian McLaughlin decided to take their unmistakable sound to Boston. They then teamed up with bassist Jeremy Cohen and guitarist Peter Stone and fervently began constructing a set perhaps more formidable than their last. As the Rare Occasions, these four intertwine well-crafted songwriting with an unapologetically bold sense of musicianship to bring the music to the people. In their time together thus far, they have self-recorded and self-produced a seven-track demo, won the Tufts University Battle of the Bands, opened for Guster and Lupe Fiasco at the Tufts Spring Fling, and performed at venues across New England. They are currently working on new songs, which will be recorded for their first EP in January of 2013.
Late Greats is a three-piece band from Boston that write pop and rock 'n' roll songs. They first formed their band on a whim because of a high school contest, Battle of the Bands. Since their debut at Battle of the Bands, they have continued their pursuit of music. They are currently stationed in Jamaica Plain and gig around the Boston area.
