Enrico Rava Tribe
Berklee Performance Center
136 Massachusetts Avenue
Boston, MA, 02115
Italian trumpeter Enrico Rava will perform original music from his record, Tribe. Rava is often credited as the musician that single-handedly brought Italian jazz to international attention. He has shared the stage with jazz legends such as Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Cecil Taylor and Charlie Haden, among others. Rava's most recent efftorts, Rava On The Dance Floor (2012) and Tribe (2011), have garnered rave reviews, with All About Jazz calling Tribe "one of the strongest albums of Rava's career." Members of his quintet include trombonist Gianluca Petrella, pianist Giovanni Guidi, bassist Gabriele Evangelista, and drummer Fabrizio Sferra.
The concert will begin with a set by Umbria Jazz Scholarship winner Sarah McKenzie. The Berklee Global Jazz Institue (BGJI) student ensemble will then take the stage, joined by Grammy-winning bassist John Patitucci.
This event is organized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the auspices of the president of Italy. Partners include Umbria Jazz, Regione Umbria, BGJI, and Professional Italians in Boston.
