Gary Burton's Arrival
This NPR broadcast of the 50-year celebration concert includes Chick Corea, Joe Lovano, Steve Swallow, and other Gary Burton bandmates from his Berklee years.
Since arriving as a student at Berklee in 1960, Gary Burton has led groups that have defined jazz's state-of-the-art for five decades, while forming lasting relationships and winning six Grammy Awards.
In a rousing, all-hands-on-deck retrospective celebration in the Berklee Performance Center this past April, Burton was joined by bandmates from his seminal groups. Artists heard on the broadcast include Chick Corea; John Scofield; Joe Lovano; Steve Swallow; Antonio Sanchez; Donny McCaslin; Jim Odgren; Makoto Ozone; Tiger Okoshi; and his Next Generation Band with Julian Lage, Vadim Neselovskyi, Luques Curtis, and James Williams.
In Boston, the concert will be heard on 89.7 WGBH-FM on Saturday, January 22, at 10:00 pm.
The concert will be heard on NPR stations coast to coast (check here for local air times), streaming on demand from nprmusic.org, and on SiriusXM's Real Jazz channel on February 5.
