The Red Room presents the New Brew Lunchtime Concert Series. Every Tuesday and Thursday, Berklee students, staff, or faculty help you either slow down or power up for the afternoon. Concerts are free, all-ages, and open to the public. Bring your lunch, snag a coffee, and grab a seat for our New Brew performances—they're good for the soul.

Today's featured artist is Aljashu & Friends, presenting Journey to the New World—songs that traveled with the Spanish-Jewish conversos to the Caribbean and the Americas. The performance spans 500 years of traditional songs sung in Ladino (Judeo-Español)  that may be heard in Argentina, Aruba, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela, and the Virgin Islands.

Featured performers are:

  • Julia Madeson: vocals
  • Tev Stevig: oud, tanbur, cumbus, and guitar
  • Brian O'Neill: cajon, dumbek, and palmas
  • Ali Amr: 72-string qa'nun
