One of the great voices of MPB today (música popular Brasileira/Brazilian popular music), Filó Machado is known internationally for his infectious blend of virtuosity, soulfulness, and groove. Students are encouraged to bring their instruments to this clinic.

Throughout his 40-year career, the multi-talented Machado—vocalist, composer, guitarist, arranger, and producer—has worked with many illustrious musicians, including Leny Andrade, Jon Hendricks, Michel Legrand, and Ivan Lins. In 2001 he made his Carnegie Hall debut. His 2009 album, Ubida, was produced by Nilson Matta and includes appearances by Kenny Barron, Cesar Camargo Mariano, Romero Lubambo, Paulo Braga, and others. A well-known composer, Machado composed and recorded the MPB hit "Jogral" with Djavan.
