Filmprov: Duets

Filmprov (an ever-evolving experiment in the union of film, musical improvisation, poetry, and beyond) presents Duets, an exploration of couplings—musical and visual, vocal and instrumental. Professor Lisa Thorson, vocals; Tim Ray, piano; Mark Harvey, trumpet; professor John Funkhouser, bass; and the animated found objects of Kate Matson's film world engage in a series of joyous, contemplative, and unexpected partnerings.

The film Duets begins and finishes with Zen, a dance of two lines. The rhythmic Fractals jumps in, and the lines whirl through the geometric shapes, absorbing and playing with the primary colors of Fractals. As Zen concludes Fractals takes a new partner in the white and sometimes translucent circles of Dots. And the pairings proceed with the likes of silk, eggs, and some tiny cherubs in a deep green world. Interacting with and exploring these visual pas de deux are four exceptionally talented "Filmprovisers" who will have already wowed the audience with their round of musical duets in the first set.
