Jazzing Up the Blues

Faculty guitarist Craig Hlady will present a guitar clinic discussing various techniques to jazz up your blues playing. The discussion/demonstration will include the use of chord substitutions, arpeggios, double stops, string bending, and how to incorporate these ideas with other traditional blues techniques. Assisting him in the rhythm section performance demonstration will be faculty guitarist Mike Williams and bassist Skip Smith.
Craig Hlady, originally from Chicago, is a talented guitarist, arranger, and composer. Well-versed in a variety of musical styles, he has played on and produced hundreds of studio recording sessions, and has toured from the U.S. to New Zealand as a sideman, and with his own groups. He currently performs in and around the Boston area with his own jazz groups, jazz singer Didi Stewart, the Brian Kelley Band, and with the blues, funk/r&b groups Lois Lane and the Daily, and the Part Time Lovers.
He has been a frequent lesson contributor to Guitar Player magazine and for the past 20 years has been a faculty member at Berklee College of Music, where he is an associate professor and teaches guitar.
