"Vocal coaching is as much psychology as it is technique and how to apply it," says Holley. "Especially on this show."
On American Idol, Holley says, "I spend as much time reassuring, massaging the psyche and encouraging, as I do preparing contestants musically, because Idol is completely alien to anything else." He adds: "I spend a fair amount of time drying tears as well."
A working vocalist for over 21 years, Holley has done all Michael Jackson's solo tours. He's also toured with Queen Latifah, Don Henley, Lionel Richie, and James Taylor, and backed up Christina Aguilera, Sheryl Crow, Herbie Hancock, Alicia Keys, Joni Mitchell, Joss Stone, Usher, Stevie Wonder, and on and on. He was the voice of Choir Boy in cult fav film The Five Heartbeats, and has been featured in countless film soundtracks.
