A Berklee tribute to Ray Charles with special guests featuring new and innovative treatments of Ray Charles classics as well as lesser-known gems from his catalog. The artists will also look back towards some of Charles’s influences and inspirations.
Ray Charles is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest geniuses in all of American music. His music is the crossroads of gospel, soul, country, and jazz, which together define American music. This concert is presented as part of Inspired by Ray: The Ray Charles Symposium.
Featured performances by guest artists, faculty, and students inspired by the music of the great Ray Charles including bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs, jazz guitarist John Scofield; blind singer-songwriter Raul Midón; Grammy-winning composer and Charles's former music director Victor Vanacore; guitarist/songwriter Doug Wamble; former Raeletts Tonette McKinney, Renee Georges, and Katrina Harper; Tracy Bonham and Margaret Glaspy with the Wayfaring Strangers; and Berklee faculty Donna McElroy.
