The Boston Landmarks Orchestra, founded in 2001 by Maestro Charles Ansbacher, was created to make great orchestral music available to all Bostonians through free, innovative performances in locations of special significance. Since 2007, the Landmarks Festival at the Shell has established itself as Boston’s newest tradition, with audiences exceeding 60,000 people per season. After the death of Maestro Ansbacher in the autumn of 2010, Boston native Christopher Wilkins was chosen to carry on the orchestra's mission as music director.

For this special presentation as part of the Tito Puente Latin Music Series, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra will perform classical selections from Latin American composers. In addition, for this event Landmarks commissioned Venezuelan musician Gonzalo Grau to write an Afro-Latin suite called "Viaje." This unique piece for symphonic orchestra and salsa combo is a musical journey through the Caribbean, with stops in Cuba, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.
