The purpose of this workshop is to bring Brazilian styles to bass playing on the contemporary stage. We will demonstrate ways to integrate traditional Brazilian styles (such as baião, afoxé, maracatu, samba, and partido alto) with modern styles (funk, jazz, etc.), as well as combining traditional rhythms together. Further, we will show how to perform these rhythms in odd meters (e.g., 7/4, 5/4). The workshop will also explore the use of chorinho (choro) melodies and accompaniment as tools.
