These United States / Southeast Engine / Marc Pinansky
Originally from Washington DC and Lexington, Kentucky, These United States released two albums in 2008, one in 2009, and one in 2010, all via Colorado-based record label United Interests. In the four years since its formation, the band has played 700 shows across the United States, United Kingdom, and northern Europe, appearing at South by Southwest, the CMJ Music Marathon, Lollapalooza, and the U.K.'s Glastonbury Festival.
Southeast Engine's folk-rock aesthetic emerged from the Ohio underground in 1999. The Wrens discovered SEE in 2006 and led Misra Records to the band later that year. The esteemed A Wheel within a Wheel was released in 2007, followed with 2009's From the Forest to the Sea. The latter received an 84—universal acclaim—from rating aggregator Metacritic. While preserving the band's signature sound, Canary marks a dramatic step forward in both songwriting and arrangement. In 2010 the band toured extensively with Deerhoof and has prepared an elaborate 2011 tour schedule as well.
