The final performance of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute’s (BGJI) Creativity and Expression in the Arts series is the culmination of the Creativity and Expression in the Arts course—a Berklee course exploring the artistic creative process and its connection to visual and performing arts forms. Taught by associate professor Anthony Scibilia, the course is designed to workshop two compositions based on selected works of art. Among the artists explored in this course are Picasso, Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollack, and Monet. “I want students to deconstruct pieces to develop their own personal language,” Scibilia explains. “Paintings become the road map.” This performance at Lilypad will feature the final compositions from the course.

The BGJI is a performance program designed to foster creativity and musicianship through various musical disciplines, with pianist and composer Danilo Pérez as its artistic director. The BGJI provides a comprehensive contemporary music environment where students are given opportunities to explore their creativity to the highest level possible, advance the power of music as a tool for the betterment of society, and connect musical creative thinking with the natural environment.
