The Sovereign Bank Music Series at Berklee

November 2007 – April 2008

The 2007-2008 Sovereign Bank Music Series at Berklee presents Christopher Guest, Rosa Passos, k-os, the Fab Faux, George Duke, the SFJAZZ Collective and more. Some of these acts will perform with Berklee students, faculty, or alumni, showcasing Berklee's own heavy-hitters alongside the best of contemporary music. The concerts will feature a wide variety of music ranging from rock, jazz, and Latin, to r&b, hip-hop, and show tunes.

Berklee is pleased to welcome Borders as the supporting sponsor of the series.

All concerts are general admission and begin at 8:15 p.m. at the Berklee Performance Center (BPC), 136 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts (unless otherwise noted). The concert series is produced by Tom Riley, vice president for external affairs, and Rob Rose, associate vice president for special programs.

The great Brazilian singer and songwriter Rosa Passos in concert with Berklee students and faculty, performing her songs along with the music of Gilberto Gil, Jobim, Djavan, and Joao Bosco.

The Fab Faux Perform Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band – November 11

The musical virtuosity of the Fab Faux completely upends the concept of a Beatles tribute band. Going far beyond note-to-note cover versions, the Fab Faux presents shows filled with inspired rediscovery of the Beatles' musical magic. The group includes members of the Conan O'Brien and David Letterman house bands and sidemen for Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright, and Joan Osborne. Concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Reserved seating.

Tickets $100, $55, $40.

($100 ticket includes a post-show meet and greet featuring conversation, autographs, and photos with the band.)

These Go to 11: Christopher Guest Meets Berklee – November 30

Writer, director, actor, composer, and musician Christopher Guest has explored the culture and comic possibilities of folk, rock, and musical theater in his films. This show—with Guest guesting on guitar and vocals—features Berklee students interpreting his music from Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind in surprising new ways.

Canada Comes to Berklee – December 12

The New Pornographers, k-os, and Bill King's Saturday Nite Fish Fry will gather on the Berklee Performance Center stage to call attention to the unsung influence music from Canada has had on American popular culture. The entire show will be broadcast live in Canada and the U.S. on SIRIUS Iceberg 95.

The Great American Songbook: Berklee on Broadway – February 24

Some of the great standards in jazz have come from Broadway musicals. Berklee faculty and student performers take a fresh look at the music now being composed for Broadway stages.

The SFJAZZ Collective – March 7

One of the most exciting and acclaimed groups on the American and international jazz scenes, featuring Berklee alumni Miguel Zenon, Joe Lovano, and Matt Penman, alongside Dave Douglas, Stefon Harris, Renee Rosnes, and Eric Harland. Berklee's Monterey Jazz Quartet—a student touring group—will open the show.

Singers Showcase – April 17

Berklee’s finest emerging vocalists take center stage for a night of pop, r&b, jazz, Latin, folk, blues, and more. The outstanding lead singers will be chosen from over 100 students who audition for a spot in this immensely popular concert, now in its 24th year.
