Bear Language, Brite Lite Brite, and Endangered Speeches will each perform 50-minute sets at the Boston Ahts Festival. Each group has a unique style, from rock to electronic to reggae to world. Collectively they have performed at Lollapalooza, SXSW, CMJ, and Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Endangered Speeches: 2:00 p.m. - 2:50 p.m.
Endangered Speeches, the creative brainchild of Greek MC/singer/composer/arranger Mariletta Konstantara, aims to restore a meaningful message and forward direction to hip-hop music. Rooted equally in hip-hop and reggae, the Endangered Speeches sound is characterized chiefly by the unique global view brought by each of its 13 members. Although drum'n’bass, dub, ska, soul, and rebetika (traditional Greek music) all contribute toward their diverse sound, the cemented rhythm section, airtight horns, and four-part vocal harmonies build a sound both unbreakable and unmistakable.
Founded in 2008, it took a year until the band’s lineup solidified. Now, under the direction of native Athenian Konstantara, the group is equipped to bring their signature sound, style, and statement to all the corners of the world that members call home. Although Endangered Speeches formed at Berklee and currently call Boston their collective home, members hail from places as wide-ranging as Canada, Mexico, Norway, Greece, Africa, India, and around the United States, each with a different musical experience.
With two releases under their belt, The City Is Rough and Dem Borders Will Fall, the band moves determinedly forward.
Brite Lite Brite: 3:00 p.m. - 3:50 p.m.
Brite Lite Brite, made up of award-winning singer-songwriter Andrea Stankevitch and electronics master Luke Johnson, both alumni of Berklee, has taken live electronic music production and performance to new levels by creating innovative technologies and techniques for live sound design and real-time production.
Bear Language: 4:00 p.m. - 4:50 p.m.
Boston’s rising alternative rock trio Bear Language is creating a new movement in sound. Drawing from the grooves of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the melodies of Radiohead, and the riffs of Rage Against the Machine, the eclectic group is gearing up to release their debut full-length album. Industry legend Joe Lambert (Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, Local Natives) offered his expertise in mastering the upcoming album. The first two singles, “Mary Go Round” and “The Factory,” were premiered by Hypetrak and are now available at bearlanguage.com.
In March 2013, the band toured across the country and made their SXSW debut, continuing to wow audiences with its raw, energetic live performance. Accolades for the band include The Deli naming Bear Language in the Top 10 Best New England Acts of 2012 as well as the band being selected among the Top Artists on Red Bull Soundstage by Spin and Indie Shuffle.
