Amanda Monaco and Kim Perlak Clinic
Guitarists Kim Perlak and Amanda Monaco will present a clinic on the creative possibilities of jazz and classical guitar in a duo format in this clinic for Berklee Guitar Sessions.
Since moving to New York, Amanda Monaco has performed with a variety of musical groups, from jazz chamber ensembles and big bands to regular appearances with her own groups at such venues as Birdland, Joe’s Pub, and The Blue Note, to name a few.
She has released five albums to date and her current projects include her quartet Deathblow, the collaborative quintet Playdate and organ trio Kiss the Leslie. Monaco is a resident musician at Congregation B’nai Jeshurun in New York and has released an album of original music based on the Pirkei Avot, a collection of rabbinical teachings compiled in the third century.
An educator since 1990, Monaco is on the faculty of Berklee College of Music. Her book, Jazz Guitar for the Absolute Beginner (Alfred Publishing), is available worldwide. She is the artistic director of Convergence Arts, Inc., a nonprofit organization whose mission is to share the art and fun of improvisation with people of all ages. She is also a cofounder of the Queens Jazz OverGround, a collective that stimulates a wider of awareness of Queens as an important destination for live jazz, cultivates a diverse local audience, and enriches the cultural life of the borough.
