A Celebration and Tribute to True Musical Innovation
September 22, 2006

Berklee will host an all-star showcase paying homage to the high-tech music revolution when Numark, Alesis and Akai Professional hold Milestones 2006. Among the evening's honorees are engineer Bruce Swedien; producer/composer/keyboardist and former faculty member Al Kooper; saxophonist Michael Brecker; Grand Wizard Theodore, who invented scratching and needle dropping; GrandMixer DXT, the first to fuse hip-hop and jazz; and Jazzy Jay, the first to bring hip-hop to the airwaves. Fab 5 Freddy of Yo! MTV Raps will host.

This concert and night of paying tribute to music trailblazers will be held in the Berklee Performance Center and will fund scholarships for Berklee's City Music program.

Milestones 2006 will feature live performances of artists, including both the founders of hip-hop itself and the breakthrough new talent of today. Berklee's Turntablism Ensemble will also perform.
