Singers' Showcase

Twenty of Berklee's best sing, whisper, belt, coo, shout, croon, wail, rap, swing, work out, drop, scat, and testify. It's not a matter of whether the lineup of vocalists will give you goosebumps, but when, and how often. Singers' Showcase is always one of Berklee's most power-packed shows, featuring talented vocalists singing in a range of styles, a band of gifted instrumentalists, and innovative arrangements written by faculty and students.

Among the songs that students will perform are "River Deep, Mountain High," made famous by Ike and Tina Turner; "Love, Love, Love," Donny Hathaway; "When the Lights Go Down," Faith Hill; "For the Love of Money," the O'Jays; and "Devil May Care," Diana Krall. Seven lead vocalists will take turns at center stage, supported by various combinations of seven background singers. The show will also feature a four-woman vocal group called Blessed, performing the traditional gospel tunes "Don't Let the Devil Ride" and "Wade in the Water."

Singers' Showcase is not only a night of entertainment, but perhaps a glimpse into the music industry's future. Former Berklee students who developed their skills in Singers' Showcase include Paula Cole '90, Susan Tedeschi '91, and Lalah Hathaway '90.

And there's one more piece of good news. This spring, you'll get not just one night of Singers' Showcase, but two consecutive nights, and both shows are open to the general public. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Berklee Performance Center Box Office at 136 Massachusetts Avenue, in Boston. More information is available by calling the box office at (617) 747-2261.
