Cinema en espa~nol introduces students to the diverse offerings of film in Spanish. Students learn to examine the art form of film as well as the unique cultural and linguistic aspects of Spanish and Latin American cinema. Students will develop knowledge of cinematography, film scores, screenwriting, acting, direction, and production of films. Students will analyze these elements of filmmaking within the context of Latin American and Spanish artistic environments, considering how culture influences art. In addition, they will explore the political, socioeconomic, and moral questions raised in each film. Finally, students will develop oral and written language skills through writing analytical and descriptive essays in Spanish as well as participating in classroom discussions. Note: This course is not available for credit to students for whom Spanish is their native language.
