General Description and Bundle Policies

The college has made exclusive arrangements to purchase large numbers of hardware and software from various manufacturers. This bulk purchase of hardware and software allows Berklee to provide a specific bundle for each major that effectively supports the additional curricular needs in the major at a special discounted price to the students in the six tech-heavy majors that is well below retail costs and best street prices for the bundle.

The department faculty, the Chair(s) of the department, and the Division Dean determine the bundle for each of the six "tech-heavy" majors.

The bundle listed below in each tech-heavy major is required of any student entering that major in the 2009-10 academic year, except for Film Scoring majors for whom it is required in the semester they are enrolled in FS-361. Please note that the complete bundle must be purchased and there are no alternative bundles. Changes to the content to any major's bundle are not permitted. Students in dual majors combining two of the six tech-heavy majors must purchase the dual-major bundle listed below, in the earliest semester it is required (i.e. for a Film Scoring dual major with another tech-heavy major, the bundle is required when the other major is declared). Please note that the bundles for each dual major combining two of the tech-heavy majors do not contain duplication of products

NOTE: The bundles for each of the tech-heavy single and dual majors may only be purchased once and only at the beginning of a student's first semester in the major (except for Film Scoring majors, who may only purchase in the semester in which they are enrolled in FS-361).

The manufacturers of the products in the majors' bundles require these purchase restrictions as part of the deal developed with Berklee College in order to secure the heavily discounted prices of the bundles for Berklee students entering the tech-heavy majors. Berklee College is not permitted at this time to function as a retail seller of the heavily discounted products in the majors' bundles.

Future bundles may contain different products, depending on the curricular needs of the major. Costs may also vary in future semesters, but will still be well below retail costs and the best street prices. Watch this space for information on the content and price of the majors' bundles for future semesters.

Prices below do not reflect the Massachusetts state sales tax of six and a quarter percent.

MP&E and Electronic Production and Design Majors – Special Information and Application Process

The Music Production and Engineering (MP&E) and Electronic Production and Design majors require certain additional and special hardware and software for certain courses and allow students to purchase the required items separately as they work through the major's concentrate. As MP&E and Electronic Production and Design majors rise through the concentrate curriculum, advanced hardware and software items are required to be purchased and utilized in the courses.

***NOTE: The MP&E and Electronic Production and Design majors have capped enrollment. Students must follow special application procedures and be accepted into the major before being able to enroll in most MP&E and Electronic Production and Design courses. Students interested in pursuing these majors are strongly encouraged to first receive notification of acceptance to the major before purchasing the additional hardware and software required of the major.

The bundles for each dual major that combines two of the tech-heavy majors do not contain duplication of products.
