Leadership Donor Profile: Joey Newman
Joey Newman ‘98 (ASCAP) is a third-generation Hollywood film composer who got his start co-composing for television with Emmy-winner W.G. “Snuffy” Walden. He has scored television series for major networks and cable, award-winning features, and the orchestral score to NCsoft’s Lineage, one of the biggest online role-playing games in history.
Newman has orchestrated for songwriter Randy Newman and conducted alongside orchestral superstars Michael Tilson Thomas and John Williams. Nominated for a 2008 Primetime Emmy Award for his music to TLC’s docu-reality series Little People, Big World, Newman is excited to lead the LA community in the Playing It Forward pledge drive.
“Berklee is where the biggest phase of my musical education happened,” he says. “It’s where I honed my musical chops and learned to feel confident in my art. It’s my hope that Playing it Forward reminds our Los Angeles Berklee community that current students are the future of music, and that we can help shape that future.”
