Berklee in the Classroom: Songwriting

Berklee's Songwriting Department encourages students to develop their own personal musical identity and helps them develop skills to compose well-crafted lyrics and music. Songwriting majors interested in becoming singer-songwriters will choose a curriculum that focuses on both songwriting and performance, culminating in a portfolio of their original songs. Students interested in writing songs for artists other than themselves learn studio and MIDI demo production techniques. Our video team sat in on the Singer-Songwriter Workshop, taught by Scarlet Keys, where students write and perform their own music. Watch the videos below to get a taste of the class and meet Keys, four students, and former department chair Jack Perricone, who is now a member of the faculty.
