Safeware, Inc. is offering laptop insurance to the Berklee students, faculty and staff.
How much does it cost?
A $2,000 policy covering the US and Canada has a premium of $140/year with a $100 deductible/claim. A $2,000 policy with international coverage has a premium of $175/year with a $200 deductible/claim for incidents occurring outside of the US and Canada. All policies can be purchased in one-, two-, three-, and four-year terms.
How do I signup?
You signup and pay for a policy at www.safeware.com/berklee.
Who is responsible for paying the premiums, and renewing the policy, and filing claims?
You are the policyholder and responsible for paying any and all premiums and are also responsible to renew the policy as directed by Safeware. You will initiate any claims directly with Safeware.
Isn't insurance part of the laptop package already?
No. Your Apple computer is protected by a manufacturer's warranty, which covers parts and labor for component failures free of charge for three years. However, the warranty does not provide for repairs that include, but are not limited to:
- Physical or cosmetic damage (breakage, cracks, scratches, dents)
- Liquid spills
- Damage or failure due to abuse, neglect, or inappropriate use; extreme physical or electrical stress
- Consumables, such as batteries and power supplies, unless due to defect
- Theft, and loss or misplacement of the computer
If something happens to my laptop, how do I get it fixed using the insurance?
If your laptop is damaged or stolen and you have a Safeware policy, you will contact Safeware directly to setup a claim. Safeware uses a network of authorized Apple repair facilities who will work with you directly to help you ship your laptop in for repairs caused by damage or repairs that are not otherwise covered by the Apple warranty. Even if you purchase a Safeware policy, we recommend that you contact Berklee's Student Computer Support Center first if you have any problems with your laptop.
